Fert Report
Of the 4 eggs they got, 2 were mature and both fertilized.
So the two lower ones didn't catch up. A day would have helped them.
I'm pissed. I can't help but think I am continually being triggered way too early. If this cycle fails, I'm going to have a heart to heart WTF session with Dr. Italian about this. If he won't push out my triggers a day if I think I need it I'll be moving back to the last clinic in the Big Apple with Dr. Indian (think that is what I called him).
The BF tried to be helpful and offered up, "Well at least you got two."
Not helpful.
Neither is the "it only takes one" comments that always seem to come forth.
What if "my one" was one of the two that wasn't mature?
If that is true, then I'm screwed and this is all for naught.

I'm sorry, Linda. It does stink that two were immature. I'm a little surprised the 17mm one wasn't ready. Maybe I'm showing my IVF ignorance here but I thought 17mm was generally considered a sufficient size to be "ripe."
I guess their lab must not be able to do in vitro maturation a la CCRM? Have been meaning to ask Dr. Italian about this and I keep forgetting. I've often wondered why Colorado seems to be the only clinic with this capability.
If there's a next time (fingers crossed that there won't be) and you express your concerns to Dr. Italian, I'm almost sure he'd be receptive to trying a later trigger. He seems like one of those doctors who's pretty willing to listen to his patients and be responsive to their concerns. He originally said he didn't want me to do an estrogen priming protocol because of my endo but I was worried about sacrificing quality so we talked about it some more and he ultimately agreed to do a modified EPP, which I think is a good compromise.
Take care. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you!

Hi Julie,
You know I am surprised too. My first cycle with them, I had NO MATURE EGGS at all. I had a pretty good response on the 2nd cycle bu then this is my 3rd cycle with them and it's bad again. I'm just not getting enough good eggs with Dr. Italian.
You know what I think it is? I think Dr. Italian is doing something wrong with his U/S measurements. I can't really believe that out of the blue, my lining is really 13 to 14mm.
Maybe my 20mm eggs aren't really 20mm? If my lining is a few mm off, I'm sure my follicles are too. Ya know?
In sum, I think he is measuring everything on the low side and that is affecting my cycles.
I'll talk to him, but I think that I'll have better success at CU.
The only problem with shifting clinics is that I can't get intralipids through CU - I'll have to reply on my Rx for IgG through my reproductive endocrinologist and then hope that my new insurance covers IVIg (after April 1st). If they do, then I can easily move back to CU for my remaining cycles.
I hate that I'm having to move again. Ugh.
Huh, that's interesting. You know, he measured my lining at 14mm during the last ultrasound too, but I didn't think too much of it. My previous RE got similar measurements but he told me older women often have thicker linings/heavier periods and that this can be a symptom of peri-menopause (great!). One cycle it was even 16 inches (not with Dr. Italian) but that was when they discovered I had a polyp, which must have been skewing the measurements.
Did you have any issues with immature eggs during your previous IVF cycles (i.e. the ones at other clinics)? If not, maybe you're right and it is time to switch. But then again, I'm still holding out a lot of hope that one of the two eggs you got is a good one. Will be waiting for the next report!
Julie
Well, that sucks. I can't believe they don't calibrate that u/s machine regularly, but that sounds plausible to me! It is my hope that this all becomes a distant memory and you can move on to fretting about other worries, but if not I agree that you need to have more say in the trigger time or move to another clinic. Glad you have a few options, but I really hope you won't need them!
@Julie: I never had my lining measured so thickly before. I have my doubts. Ya know?
No, I never had immature eggs in my previous cycles, even my last cycle at CU which was in Sept/Oct 2009. Just a few months before I cycle with Dr. Italian! So something's amiss.
@MMM: I'm not sure it's a matter of calibration because it seems to be consistent no matter which U/S room I am in. He has 3 + the one in the O/R. He always comes out with really thick measurements for my lining. So I think the issue is how HE measures and not so much the calibration. I know, I hope that I don't need to go elsewhere. After this many cycles I feel like I'm on an IVF marathon without an end in sight though. :-S
How frustrating! That does sound like *his* measuring, and I wonder if you could just go to another lab for a comparison measurement? Huge pain, but then, what isn't in IVF?
Hope your embies are coming along, take care of yourself during this crazy time!
