I miss gluten already
I'm on day 2 of being gluten free. Mostly casein (milk protein) free too save for a wee bit of half and half in my morning decaf. I'm not sure I can cut that out but I may try soon. Meals are boring so far without a bit of pasta or bread. I'm sure this will pass. When I found out I was allergic to dairy, I learned to make do. I'll figure it out again. Thank god whole foods is chock full of gluten free alternatives.
AF is due today I think - my last CD1 happened in Paris on a Saturday night (guess that would be Saturday afternoon NYC time) - so I might be a day late at this point. I think that since I started the adderal, 2 of my 3 AF have been late. One was, what, 8 days late? Latest I've ever been.
The burning question that I have is this:
"Is it the adderal doing it? Or is it that my ovaries are finally tossing in the towel and headed towards menopause?"
I guess my CD3 FSH/E2 values will tell what's up when AF finally gets around to showing up.

I've been gluten free for 25 days now (not that I"m counting). All I can say is that you have to shift your thinking away from what you CAN'T have to what you can have. I focus on getting plenty of protein and whole grains (brown rice, quinoa) and lots of veggies. I find it helpful to cook a big amount at dinner and pack left-overs for lunch. That way there's no temptation to grab a sandwich, etc.
The cravings will go away. Promise!
It sounds like it was a very, very rough day. I'm sorry:( And somehow tough times in combination with something like going gluten-free (I've had very spotty success with this) makes it that much more difficult.
I've found that Spelt is a good-ish substitute for flour if you're baking something. Of all the "fake" breads out there, I like the Food For Life Spelt one the best. It's not great. But it's better than many of the others. You have to toast it (and it comes frozen). Also the Tinkyada brown rice pasta is pretty good. Not the same (sigh) but a decent alternative.
I only found your blog this weekend, and wanted to say hi.
I've been gluten free for two years now, and blogged about what I've learned -- you might find it useful: http://bravingivf.blogspot.com/2010/04/going-gluten-free.html
Finding great corn pasta was a big deal -- made things so much easier.
Note that Adele's suggestion of spelt only works if you're wheat-free, not gluten-free, as spelt contains gluten.
Good luck!
Brave IVF Girl,
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing the gluten link on your blog, which was fantastically inspiring! I never thought about making pasta with corn flour, which makes perfect sense that you could use it in place of regular flour. :-)
My GI biopsy didn't show celiac disease, but I've read a few sources online that claim that Lymphocytic Colitis is sorta like celiac disease of the large intestine. So cutting out wheat gluten should really help me out.
Funny that you mention In and Out protein burgers in your post. I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and In and Out was the first place that I headed, being that we've moved east and can't get their burgers here.
I had a double-double "animal style" (my favorite!) and I spend the entire evening with such horrible stomach pain that I thought at one point that I might need to go to the ER. At no point did I ever think it was related to the bun, but in retrospect, that might be exactly what it was. I haven't had that sort of pain since I went gluten free and I've noticed that my stomach bloating is pretty much gone, even after a large meal. It's mind boggling.
So glad you stopped by to share your tips. Thank you!
